About Us

The Chennai Trekking Club (CTC) is a non-profit, volunteer based group which organizes outdoor, sports, green and social events throughout the year on weekends and weekday mornings. Founded in 2008 the group is one of the most active and largest in South India with 40 thousand members, hundreds of events throughout the year and featured in 300+ news articles. Upcoming events are informed to our members through a mailing list, write-ups on completed events are posted on our blog, ongoing member discussions happen in our Facebook group, follow us on Android.

CTC organizes a wide diversity of outdoor and sports activities to promote an active and healthy lifestyle. Activities include trekking, cycling, running, open water swimming, biking, photography, educational workshops, ladies & family treks. Major annual events include the Chennai Trail Marathon, Javadhu Hill Ultra and Chennai Iron Triathlon. CTC organizes easy, moderate and difficult treks as well as periodic fitness tests for new members. Check the major highlights in our history.

Ainthinai, CTC's green wing, organizes frequent environmental conservation activities including tree  plantations & maintenance, organic farming, cleanups in beaches, lakes, rivers, workshops on sustainability, terrace farming, tree walks and more. Each year CTC organizes the Chennai Coastal Cleanup and Green Day - a major awareness campaign on sustainability. We have an active green team in Pondichery.

CTC also engages in many social activities including our Chennai Red Knights (blood donations), social treks for the less privileged and our CESAW group who creates awareness on environment and social topics through flash mobs and street plays. CTC was very involved in rescue, relief and rehabilitation during the Dec 2015 Chennai / Cuddalore floods.

CTC organizes regular free workshops on various topics including map reading and navigation, photography, snakes, first aid and various aspects of sustainable living. Each year CTC organizes a major symposium "Trek Polamaa?" where renowed guest speakers come to give inspirational talks on various topics related to outdoors, sports, nature and environment.

CTC is a place where like-minded, nature loving and outdoor passionate souls come together in a open, volunteering environment, overcoming challenges together as a team, breaking out of oneself physical and mental boundaries, coming out as friends for life and recharged human beings with a different perspective on life. The non-profit nature of equal cost sharing and volunteering based environment focusing on a shared passion brings out the best in people.
